Armidale

On May 13th I went to visit some family friends up in Armidale, which about 6 hours north of Sydney.

I loved that I got to experience the countryside of Australia, it was truly a wonderful site to see.

tree gateway to the University of New England. This area of Australia was called New England because when it was settled they planted trees and such to make it look like England.

an old orphanage

All the really old building are made out of Armidale blue stone,
a brick made from the materials of the region.

the Dangars Gorge

this gorge and the other ones I saw were just so breathtaking. I didn't except gorges to be in the middle of NSW. They just appeared out of nowhere.

and we spent some time at Pony Club...

As the sign says above, this is the Wollomombi Falls/Gorge

driving back to the farm from the gorge

Then Saturday night, we went to a monster trucks show :)

 and there were fireworks...

Sunday, we went on a day camping trip, complete with crawfish "yabbie" fishing and campfire foods!

one of the two crawfish we caught! yay!

the area of our campsite,
just a tiny little place on their huge farm

On Monday before I left, we went on a farm tour...

the segments of a farm are called paddies. We went through a ton of them and it was pretty cool to see the differences between each one...

...and it was my job to open up all the gates.

sheep drenching time!

lol the dogs liked to sheep surf, but I could never actually capture it on film!

In the plane on the way back to the city...

love this view of the gorges...

I had so much fun in Armidale and on the farm! Thanks to my friends for letting me stay with them!

  1. Shara and her family sure showed you a fabulous time. The monster truck show, I bet, was a lot of fun. I just loved the blue brick. I would totally pick that for our house!! The gorges were totally unexpected for me knowing that you were going to farm country. Amazing. Hugs, Mom

  2. So how many people had to split two crawfish? :) Bet you were all hungry.

Really, it was beautiful. You're making me jealous again.
